ABC is now hiring teachers, teachers' aides, and administrators for the
upcoming school year. These positions are filling very quickly. We are
planning on hiring 8 full-time teachers, several part-time and full-time
teachers' aides and several administrators.
See below for the position descriptions. You can submit a resume and
cover via email, fax or first class mail. Positions are being filled on
a rolling basis.
ABC, a new dual language 6th to 8th grade middle school in Washington DC,
is seeking Language Arts teachers for its opening school year 2005-2006.
Teachers will be expected to address the needs and interests of students
from a variety of educational, linguistic, cultural, and personal backgrounds
by collaborating closely with families and other school staff. Candidates
should be highly qualified in their content area, be comfortable with teaching
multi-level classrooms, be familiar with scaffolding techniques, be open
to learning and actively collaborating, and be committed to the goals of
bilingual education.
The mission of Academia Bilingüe de la Comunidad Public Charter School
(ABC) is to graduate adept learners, effective communicators, and community
leaders who are culturally aware and prepared to use their academic skills
and bilingual proficiency to succeed in rigorous high schools, post-secondary
education and society.
One half of ABC's courses will be taught in English and the other half
will be taught in Spanish. In order to support our unique educational model,
all students attend a mandatory Intensive Language Academy the first four
weeks of school and take language development coursework corresponding
to their own levels of Spanish and English language proficiency. Out-of-school
activities and a Community and Family Resource Center will support the
mission of ABC.
The ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish and English, have experience
working with middle school students in a dual language setting, and have
both the personal commitment and the skills necessary to ensure that all
students are given the opportunity to access standards-based academic content
in ways that are meaningful, creative, and personally enlightening.
ABC does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic
origin, gender, sexual orientation or religion. We encourage persons of
diverse backgrounds to consider applying for our positions.
Our Salaries and Benefits are highly competitive with other area schools.
