English & Spanish Language Development Teachers

Responsibilities
Language development teachers will be teaching language skills in either English or Spanish to meet the particular needs of the students. The teacher will therefore be required to teach at different levels and adapt course materials as warranted. Teachers will be expected to plan and collaborate extensively with each other.

    Skills and Experience
  • Bilingualism in Spanish and English
  • Ability to teach with Spanish as the language of instruction
  • Qualifications to teach English or Spanish as a Second Language
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theory and practice and literacy issues
  • Understanding of metacognitive skills
  • Ability to tie academics to social issues and reality as well as make it personally relevant
  • Ability to help students negotiate classroom content in order to make it personally meaningful rather than merely reproduce content as it was presented
  • Ability to target different learning styles, academic levels, and special needs
  • Facility at scaffolding course content and breaking down information
  • Ability to communicate clear expectations and reach out to students and families
  • Ability to analyze student data and use it in instructional planning and individualization
